We roughed it for the most part, but we didn't take it to an extreme jpg.

We had to prepare the camp site every year as we were the only folks to camp on the property we used. No electricity or running water...... no toilets (al fresco)...... no showers (we used a 5 gal black bag {solar heated} hung from a tree branch). We had to go to a spring & haul all in of our water. We did bring marine batteries for some lighting, the radio & occasional tv use.

We went to the local saw mill, loaded & hauled slab wood ourselves. We also scrounged around the woods for fallen branches & trees. We cut & stacked the wood ourselves..... We had a camp tradition..... the campfire never went out...... regardless of the weather.

The last 5 years or so we we had an old propane grill on site & made good use of it. I generally was camp cook. Since we spent so much time in the woods hunting, the grill was great for slow cooking a roaster (chix) or a nice sir loin or pork roast...... maybe to warm a pot of home made soup or chili. Many a meal was cooked over the campfire. Almost all meals were cooked in camp. No fridge....... coolers & ice. We ate real good :-)

More time was spent listening to the sounds of nature than to tunes or sports. Most of us only left camp to get provisions...... or the occasional 4 am breakfast before an all day hunt.

We generally spent more waking hours in the woods than in camp...... but we also had ATV's to get us to & fro...... deep into the woods. Many an evening found us in an open field far from camp watching the moon & stars in awe.

We were environmentally responsible....... we left the site as clean or cleaner than we found it.

Time to break camp was a depressing time for most of us. We all would have gladly stayed for several more weeks/months <ggg>.

RE: my knee........ See my reply to clapster after the market closes. FWIW, it's not a pretty story <ng>.
