I did not make a case for imperialism today. The time for that has largely passed, no one wants to have to hold down rebellious sectors of the population in order to maintain possession. It is quite possible that the imperial powers had little choice at the time, that things had advanced to far politically. Just because I think that it was too precipitous does not mean I am sure it could have been helped, or that I want a do over.......
