I doubt young folk have changed a great deal in the meantime. Oh, I completely agree with this part of your post, Frank. And I think Summers should have said his say on why he disagreed with the petition. And explained himself carefully. That would be good for the university. Too many times university presidents are actually either afraid to publicly explain themselves to the faculty or simply not interested in doing so. Credit to Summers for doing so. The problem was calling it anti-semitic rather than simply a position with which he disagreed.
