Joel, I do respect your usually well-considered opinion. But I think we should put this issue in context. The position of President in the modern age selects for a certain psychological type: power-hungry, to the extent that normal human appetites for love and solitude are suppressed.

The media and public, with their childish understanding of anything more complex than a dishtowel, say things like "the President is doing a poor job with the economy..." as if there is a massive panel with buttons on it in the Oval Office, with controls for inflation, unemployment, etc. What healthy person would put up with such crap? Only a psychopath would tolerate it.

It's no wonder that a woman has never been elected President. The women I know have too much common sense and concrete groundedness to be caught up in the delusions that would be necessary to make one campaign for the office.

I don't think this is beside the point.
