Arafat is irrelevant to any solution

One of the TV types put it well the other day. The last time the Israeli's entered Ramallah it lead the News. Now it is "In other News."

Bush's rejection of him has worked. When the Arabs get through "huffing and puffing" things go our way. That is why fears of "The Arab Street" are now nonsense.

>>But what makes no sense is to treat Mr. Arafat as if he's totally irrelevant and totally responsible.

Actually, I think this does make sense if you think Arafat is irrelevant to any solution to the conflict and that he is responsible for the degeneration of Palestinian and Israeli life.

Good point. Also, since everybody knows that Arafat only cares what happens to himself, but couldn't care less what happens to his people, it is constructive to make sure that the pressure on him stays heavy, and that he is still assigned the political responsibility for terror. If Israel stops doing that, people who insist that the Israelis must talk to Arafat will come out of the woodwork again.
