The point is that strong religious faith was a characteristic of most rescuers. Also, by the way, the Italians dragged their feet about deporting Jews, and only acquiesced when Hitler insisted. Vichy tried to save French Jews (though not hard enough), though it did not try to save refugees. Yes, there were eager, Jew hating Poles and Ukranians and Croats, at least. There were also rescuers even among those populations, and again, usually pious ones........
