Ya, it tends to increase the work week considerably, sometimes for months at a time.........
lots of time preparing only to have postponement after postponement........
you get grilled endlessly.........
your work is scrutinized to the 'nth degree..........
the slightest mistake is blown completely out of proportion & used in an attempt to disqualify everything you did, whether the mistake had any bearing on the outcome/conclusions or not.........
the other side does everything it can to discredit you, regardless of the facts.........

But you know what? I really enjoyed it. I have this thing about liars & cheats.

I got selected to be the expert witness because my work stood on it's own. And I left them with no way out. I would anticipate all the BS excuses/loopholes they could attempt to use & already have sufficient evidence at hand to eliminate every one of them.

And I was really good at using their own words against them.

Most of the time they pled out during the discovery phase. I was needed once during the sentencing phase though. The fraud was in excess of $100 million & the perp was potentially facing serious time. Uncle did the usual & he got off easy though :-(

But you know what? It was their loss. I miss the work & the satisfaction of nailing the basturds, but not the BS work environment.
