I don't see it as punishment. I see it as judging for oneself, what one wants for oneself. If one doesn't want to associate with murderers I think that is fine, even if it isn't the murderers fault he is a murderer. I even think it is ok to remove the murderer from society- but I think they need to be treated as humanely as possible, just in case there really is no free will. Which there may not be. It certainly is a possibility. One of many.
