Well, you get what you pay for. The professional version of Windows is supposed to be pretty good.

It just happened that XP came with the new systems. It hangs a lot, particularly on multimedia stuff. Looks nice, and you can't get a DOS window, but same old problems with doing anything out of the ordinary.

Might be unique to a Seanix. I don't know what other people are finding. If I had lots of time, I'd install Linux.

I cut my teeth on the PC, switched to Mac in 1984 and was a Mac-fanatic for years and years, but since 1998 been back to PC (still have one of each side by side at home).

Reality is, Mac is now totally a niche product and the gap between Mac and PC OS/interface/stability mostly gone now. If you know Win (you do, obviously), stick with what you know or you'll constantly be frustrated by at least the little things (people sending you docs that don't quite translate perfectly, someone's got just the little utility you need but it doesn't run on Mac, and so on).

XP is MUCH more stable than Win 9.x (including ME). I don't like the 'pretty' interface so have made it Windows Classic look, but the stability is very very welcome.

Like the rest of the world, I hate MS, and I hate monopolies (especially those that pretend they aren't) but pragmatism forces me to support Win as a solution.

Cheers
