I think some dress code is appropriate. For example, I don't think boys should be allowed to wear just those mini-swimming trunks to school.

But I think the codes must be minimalistic, and the only justification for a dress code can be that the prohibirted dress would lbe so distracting that it would significantly detract from the educational mission of the school.

I don't see how dredlocks can do that.

After all, we do have the Tinker case to deal with.
