It was more of a general comment than making a point. If we get into an argument about whether skin heads or dread locks are beyond the tolerance level for schools we will enter mirk and mire.

Dread locks are at the core of the Rastafarian religion. Does that have anything to do with this case? It doesn't appear to. Yet, would we allow someone who is a Rastafarian to wear dread locks and not others. And if we deny a Rastafarian to wear dread locks are we violating freedom of religion. As far as that goes Marijuana is also at the center of the Rastafarian religion and many schools have smoking areas...so... (tangent)

My take is that we should decide on a dress code for public education once and for all. If no standards of appearance can be justified in the dress code then the decision should be no, nada, none, period...not even your issue with boys swim wear. Personally, I lean in favor of a conservative dress code...as in uniforms and hair. While vouchers and alternative schools can accomodate exceptions.
