U.S., Britain Lobby for Iraq Resolution

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and Britain on Thursday launched a joint campaign to muster support for a strongly worded U.N. resolution demanding Iraq disarm.

Secretary of State Colin Powell ( news - web sites) decided to send senior U.S. official Marc Grossman to Paris and Moscow to explain the elements of a resolution, including "hard consequences" if Iraq fails to comply with the resolution.

Grossman, who will travel with a British envoy, briefed Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhou Wenzhong in Washington on Thursday, officials said.
