"A few doctors are"

Rep Ron Paul is a doc, and a Rep. from Texas.

Excellent, Libertarian tendency towards high personal responsibility, low respect for all-powerful central gov't run by insiders. At odds w. Bush, needless to say.

A few doctors are, I know. I was thinking that they would have to abandon their principles in order to adopt positions that were politically feasible.

Governance isn't about personal "principle" per se. It's about maintaining a working government that's efficient and responds to the will of the people [and doesn't conflict with the Constitution]. That not only necessitates compromise, good governance "demands" a representative to vote for legislation that conflicts directly with their "principle". Not so easy, I'm sure.

They were trying to go for that last 10 percent, which to me is completely illogical in a process that couldn't be controlled even if you had perfect knowledge.

This shouldn't be a surprise. The education of scientists is all about getting 100%. And they should. Perfect knowledge is a good thing. But in terms of governance, or business management, it's a hindrance.

Should the polar ice caps completely melt and 70% of Florida be submerged in water along with all the coastal cities, scientists will still be arguing as to whether or not it was caused by global warming. After all, in Kansas [I think it's Kansas] they have creationism and evolution being taught as equal theories.
