Aw, MD, I know what you mean and you don't sound glib. Not t'all. It's the nature of trading that we keep up with this stuff and the barrage of eco news that we see compared to what the average person picks up on is quite a dichotomy. I think it's normal to talk about stuff like this when it's in numbers and in reports - it's less human.

But it doesn't mean that we don't know inside what it means. The implications are terrifying, really. It seems normal that after a while we address these things as proof of a bigger picture that many people here have foreseen and understand instead of feeling a collective sadness at how crappy it's all become for many. And it'll probably get crappier for many, too.

All of us know people who have been laid off and who are worried about keeping their home and livlihoods - and I don't mean their SUV's and expensive homes and whether the wife should buy another alligator handbag. Many of these people just want to get back a smidgen of the prosperity they once felt so that they can take a breather from the panic inside - or even pay the rent.

What you said about not wanting to sound like you're not taking it seriously is really important, too. While a lot of us will post things like, "How can joe six-pack NOT have seen it coming? Why is it some still don't get it?" -- it doesn't mean we don't have compassion for those less "lucky". I think we're simply fortunate that we have such a great crowd here to learn from and since we talk about it every day, we can become somewhat habituated to it.

I had/have a wonderful friend in Texas from whom I learned the bulk of what I currently understand about the markets and to him I'll always be grateful. (well, that and teaching myself 16 hours a day sometimes -g-) He was totally, awesomely brilliant and a great friend, too. And perhaps without these people in our lives we'd be in the same boat - unemployed, worried, desperate -- instead of commenting on how our latest short sell or long buy is behaving.

It could be said that the regular guy out there shoulda done "this" or coulda done "that" to see some of this economic whirlwind change direction... but in the end, none of us want our families to worry about their futures or for us not be in a position to help a friend in need.

Well, anyways, I guess we should be thankful, huh?

I'm done with my mushy rant... now let's go back to being glib :O)
