Virtually everything you're writing about is true, but doesn't impact most business users very much. Most of them are on Office 2000, which is compatible with XP. Office 97 has been phased out most places. Few users have their own peripherals, and in fact many companies outright prohibit connecting your own stuff to the company computer.

That's still the bulk of the market. It's pretty tightly controlled, and there are currently few reasons to need to upgrade.

Geoffrey, you have described a market that is pushed from the bottom instead of driven by the top. And I think that describes the PC market perfectly. It doesn't preclude the need to upgrade, but it does identify the falling relevance of the top-of-the-line.
