That attitude is typical of the past few months; typical of the kind of treatment given to those who have opposed Mr. Bush's agenda in its current format.

I think there is a difference. There is a hard core group, that shows up at these demonstrations, and these are the ones I am talking about. This 1 or 2% of tha hardcore peaceniks have always been there and will always be there, and when these characters cheer, it doesn't really mean all that much.

You are badly misinformed. The leaders of the march are lawmakers from Parliament who belong to the same party as PM Blair. They are hardly hard core peaceniks. Once again you resort to names with a negative connotation to make your point.

As far as the size of the opposition, one only needs to consider the narrow margin Bush Sr. got for Iraq 1, the strong isolationist movement in the US during the WWII, the fact that Neville Chamberlain led the clear majority of Brits all the way to the brink.

Peace loving people, people who believe in democracy, people who are rational.......are slow to go to war. So what......those people usually win.....because they are smart, rational, and think from all sides.

Furthermore, we are not talking about a Hitler who has broken free from his boundary restraints, and is attacking your place of birth. We are talking about a two bit dictator who may or may not be developing WMD who probably can be contained but maybe not......we should know in the next few months. No one is saying that Saddam is not a menace. How to deal with him effectively with a minimal expenditure of resources is the goal.

BTW, compared to those, the opposition to Bush seems to still come from fringes, and if anything is questioned, it is not the goal, but the timing and tactics.

Sorry, but I am not fringe........and there are a lot of people like me out here who feel the same way. Washington and NYC have dictated the direction of the country for the past year. Maybe that was necessary due to 9/11 but it can't be that way going forward.

"Good. They should be worried. They hate us? We hate them. Americans don't want to make Islamic fanatics love us. We want to make them die. There's nothing like horrendous physical pain to quell angry fanatics. So sorry they're angry – wait until they see American anger. Japanese kamikaze pilots hated us once too. A couple of well-aimed nuclear weapons, and now they are gentle little lambs. That got their attention.

Stewing over the "profound and troubling change in the attitude of the German electorate toward the United States," Gore ruefully noted that the German-American relationship is in "a dire crisis." Alas, the Germans hate us.

That's not all. According to Gore, the British hate us, too. Gore said Prime Minister Tony Blair is getting into "what they describe as serious trouble with the British electorate" because of his alliance with the U.S. ("Serious trouble" is British for "serious trouble.")

That same night, James Carville – the heart and soul of the Democratic Party – read from the identical talking points on "Crossfire": "The Koreans hate us. Now the Germans – you know that's one against Germany. You know what? You know what? If we had a foreign policy that tried to get people to like us, as opposed to irritating everybody in the damn world, it would be a lot better thing." (Hillary Clinton on James Carville: "Great human being.")

Perhaps we could get Djibouti to like us if we legalized clitorectomies for little girls. America is fighting for its survival and the Democrats are obsessing over why barbarians hate us.

The Democrats' scrolling series of objections to the war is utterly contradictory. On one hand, liberals say Bush is trying to build an "empire." But on the other hand, they are cross that we haven't turned Afghanistan into the 51st state yet. This follows their earlier argument that Afghanistan would be another Vietnam "quagmire."

The "empire" argument is wildly popular among the anti-American set. Maureen Dowd said Dick Cheney and "Rummy" were seeking "the perks of empire," hoping to install "lemon fizzes, cribbage and cricket by the Tower of Babel." She warned that invading Iraq would make them hate us: "How long can it be before the empire strikes back?"

Ah yes – we must mollify angry fanatics who seek our destruction because otherwise they might get mad and seek our destruction.

Gore, too, says America will only create more enemies if "what we represent to the world is an empire." But then he complained that we have "abandoned almost all of Afghanistan" – rather than colonizing it, evidently. He seems to think it is our responsibility to "stabilize the nation of Afghanistan" and recommends that we "assemble a peacekeeping force large enough to pacify the countryside."

As I mentioned earlier, this is the voice of Bush's loyal troops that have been mouthing off since 9/11. These are the thoughts of someone who previously kept this gross commentary to himself but now feels he has the right to spew his hatred/this garbage throughout the world. And if this attitude predominates in this country, then the terrorists will have won.

And he definitely is not alone in his views. Not long after 9/11 the wife of some neighbors who I thought were friends called me up to rant about 9/11. She claimed that 9/11 happened because liberals allowed minorities to roam freely and was thanking God that the baby killer Gore was not in office or we would be in serious trouble. She went on for 15 minutes. That was my first face to face experience with a conservative who had let her mask down. I was shocked at the bile and hatred.

BTW this woman is not your typical redneck.......she has a BA, is a good mother to her two small children, her father is the Rep. mayor of a TX city. Surprisingly, since then, she has had the cajones to call me and invite me to parties and dinners at their house. After a few months and numerous no's, she finally gave up.

EDIT. as I type this post, the Dow is down 285 points. And you think the economy is recovering?
