I would weigh the matter. I have known many people who run chronically late. Some of them never mention it. I've no idea why. Some of them are worth keeping and some aren't. I don't want an explanation, and I don't care about an apology- if they are worth keeping, and run late, it is up to me to plan around that or endure it. If it isn't worth it, I dump them. Of course I always carry books with me, so lateness of others is not a huge problem for me, and not something I find very annoying anymore. I'm a punctual person myself, but that is all about me, and my comfort, it isn't about the other person.
