An omnipotent person could possibly claim never to be late, which includes, I guess, never having been late, but I find it hard to accept that circumstances beyond your control have never resulted in your being late.

For example: if you are dependent on someone else for getting you there, and they are late, you will be late.

If you have car trouble, or parking trouble, or get lost, you may be late.

If you run into gridlock because of an accident on the highway, you may be late.

If there is a demonstration that blocks the bridge you must cross, you'll be late.

If you are taking the subway and the power goes out and you have to sit on the train for 90 minutes, you'll be late.

If you can't leave until the babysitter (or the person who cares for your invalid spouse in your absence) arrives, and the sitter shows up a half hour late, you'll be late.

If you are CH and don't much care about the person you're meeting and feel like finishing a chapter, you'll be late.

But let's say you're never the victim of natural or social disruption, and so have never personally experienced being late.

An exercise of the imagination and intuition would, I suspect, confirm the correctness of what I wrote. Think of it as a hypothetical that would apply to you if you were ever late.

I suspect that if you need them for your professional development, and find yourself unavoidably late, you would do what you could to be sure they didn't feel you were an inconsiderate sort of person or one who was careless of their time.
That would suggest, probably, an explanation and an apology.
Dignified, of course.
