staggering stat from Fleck tonight:

San Mania: For instance, among the companies in the semiconductor-equipment arena that cut forecasts, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis) talked about capex being frozen. Also last night, Sanmina (SANM:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis) announced that it has shut down plants equivalent to half of its capacity, and laid off 40,000 workers. That is a rather staggering statistic I wanted to share, to give you an idea of the excess capacity that was built up in the mania. Sanmina is just one contract manufacturer. There are a handful of other contract manufacturers, and of course there are lots of other industries with excess capacity besides contract manufacturing.
