I disapprove of the entire finger pointing exercise, I don't think it's intellectually honest because based on all evidence with has been revealed to date, nobody knew, or could have known, what these men intended. They behaved perfectly legally. No evidence of missed communications here in the US have turned up yet. In retrospect, with 20-20 hindsight, we see places where, if only we had known, we could have stopped them.

A much more eloquent summation of what I was rambling about yesterday! :)

I disapprove of the entire finger pointing exercise,

Eliot Cohen pointed out in his book, "Military Misfortunes" that the problem is mainly organizational. We have been trying, since the OSS was set up, and got into more of a battle with the FBI and MacCarthur than with our enemies, to solve that problem. 911 showed that it was even worse than we thought.
