India.- in the poorer sections of society, kids get amputated/disfigured, so they make 'better beggars' for their masters.

I had hoped that had stopped. Rand did an article on that practice, "The Comprachicos," published in "The New Left: The Anti-Industrial Revolution." It described the Gypsy practice in the Middle Ages of deforming children and selling them to the courts for the Royalty's amusement, as Dwarfs and clowns. She used it to show the way a child's mind was warped by bad education.

On the practice: there is a difference betwen state sponsored tortures and those performed by non-state entities.

On India: thats horrible. What is being done to stop it?

To me, it does.

My impression is that you don't really care about the differences between state action and individual action.

I have read that fatalism ("it's life") is a common belief in Asia. Here we believe that it's not only possible, but necessary, to prevent the things that you react to with "it's life." Maybe that's why you're here and not there?
