Thank you for your response. You obviously are better at googling than I am.

I was surprised to see the distributions in the maps of the two sources. I thought more Shiites would show up. It certainly seems the Sunnis are in control of most of the Muslim world.

Next, I suppose, we need to trace out the Wahhabi influence on Muslim thinking. I enjoyed the example given today by Bernard Lewis. Wahhabism is like if the KKK got all the oil wealth of Texas and with this money began to promulgate its version of religion throughout the Christian world.

Not a pleasant comparison but it seems we need to be beware of the Wahhabis more than either the Shiites or the Sunnis -- as long as neither is devoted to a militant fundamentalist expression of their religion.
