Some people use "naked" with respect to any option position that is not hedged by an underlying security (or another option position). For example see:

I don't recall anyone going to jail for insider trading the plane hijackings, and I firmly believe that I would have heard of it if it had happened. So I'm wondering about the veracity of the news.

A hell of a lot of investors have been short this market collapse. For example, I put out a recommendation to short CSCO, INTC, MU, TXN, ALTR, and XLNX (tech stocks) just a week before the hijackings: #reply-16304424

Those stocks were way overvalued and have come down, but are still fairly overvalued.
