often wonder what percentage of seemingly sane human beings are in fact so paranoid that their hold on reality is this tenuous?

My guess is at least 30%, and I often suspect it's as high as 90%.

It's a truly concrete-bound way of interpreting the world. Actions are always motivated by Materialism, and there isn't any intellectual or dare I say it, principle, as a cause.
