Gabriel Capital Reports 5% Passive Stake In StemCells

WASHINGTON -- Gabriel Capital Corp., associated with investor J. Ezra Merkin, reported holding a 5% stake in StemCells Inc. (STEM), according to a Schedule 13G filed Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On Monday, Gabriel Capital beneficially owned 1,291,530 StemCells common shares, according to the filing.

A Schedule 13G denotes a passive investment stake in a company. Filers aren't required to provide a reason for any changes in stake and aren't required to detail any transactions.

StemCells, a biomedical company, develops and licenses cellular therapy to treat diseases of the central nervous system.
