As I remember, we were in Vietnam with ground troops (not just advisors) long before the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin incident. The attack on the Maddox accelerated our involvement.

The provocation was North Vietnam's incursion into the South in 1959 or so. The Gulf of Tonkin resolution gave the president expanded authority, but we were fighting (with thousands of US troops as I recall) before that.

This is all hazy, but the basis for our involvement was the common defense of SEATO, to which South Vietnam belonged. We should take a close look at that time line.

most of the major wars of the 20th century we were bamboozled into. nothing's changed, jews helped drag the US into both world wars. they helped drag america into the gulf war and now they seek to drag us into war with iraq with more lies and propaganda.
