I thought my point was quite plain, John, and no insult intended. Just pointing out that many posting here, including you, have made just the mistake made in the concept of "mirror-imaging" - assuming rational behavior where it does not necessarily belong.

No, you still get it wrong. Mirror imaging and rationality are not necessarily linked. Mirror imaging only means that Saddam does not do as policy analysts see themselves doing in a similar situation. It does not impute lack of rationality to Saddam. It's quite easy for structural factors to account for it and Pollock offers those.
