China - Govt officially approves CDMA 450 standard SEPTEMBER 30, 2002 12:00AM FINANCIAL TIMES LIMITED, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Asia Intelligence Wire via NewsEdge Corporation : 09/27/2002 China: The Ministry of Information Industry has approved 450MHz CDMA technology as an official standard for mobile communications, according to people in the industry. The move paves the way for the award of new contracts in 2002. CDMA 450 is gaining momentum because of its relatively low deployment cost, with its lower frequency requiring less base stations vs 900MHz systems. The Russian govt approached Beijing earlier in 2002 to promote CDMA 450 technology, which its own operators are deploying, in an effort to legitimise the technology and to lower equipment costs thanks to China's market leverage.
