That portion is true. But if you recall. The so-called Constitutional Convention, was named a Constitutional Convention after the fact. The participants gathered there to amend the Articles of Confederation, not replace it. They were specifically told, not to write a new document.

For example, you'll find correspondence between Madison and Jefferson regarding the Congress [formation of Senate and House] and Jefferson remarking how clever an idea it was.

The dudes that get the greatest credit for the Constitution, IMO, are Madison, Hamilton, and Franklin. Ol' Ben F. had a rather unique role.....he conned the delegates into signing the Constitution without agreeing with the contents [sly old fox]. For the delegates that didn't agree with the contents, he convinced them that what they were signing was a document that was the consensus of the body, not that everyone agreed it was correct.
