Huge climate change worries -- see this thing written by a Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution scientist (not some freeze-dried food, gold, and guns kind of guy).

He is however searching for funding for his organization (to place more measuring buoys, etc...)

I searched Google and there are many references to the "Ocean Conveyor" - worth checking out for some more background. With the current awareness of nonlinear phenomena and "chaos theory" I guess people are looking in certain areas for explanations for these sorts of things.
