Motorola Grew DSP Revenue by 34% in 2002
Electronics Weekly -- 2/12/2003
Electronic News

Motorola Inc. had a good year in the DSP business last year, growing revenues by 33.6 percent and displacing Agere Systems Inc. in the No. 2 slot, according to Tempe, Ariz.-based analyst firm Forward Concepts Inc.

Texas Instruments Inc. continued to dominate the sector with 43.2 percent market share, growing its DSP revenues 23.2 percent in the year.

Forward Concepts attributed Motorola’s success to the fact that its parent was using more of Motorola’s own DSPs.

Motorola’s DSP market share was 14.1 percent, Agere’s was 13.9 percent after a 1.5 percent decline in its DSP revenues, and fourth place Analog Devices took an 8.9 percent share after increasing its DSP revenues 23.7 percent.

The DSP market was worth $4.9 billion last year and is expected to grow to $5.8 billion this year, $7.7 billion next year, $9.9 billion in 2005, $12.4 billion in 2006 and $14.9 billion in 2007.

The AsiaPacific region takes 41.9 percent of the market, Europe has 25.9 percent, the US accounts for 21.8 percent and Japan has 10.4 percent.
