If "Honest Bob" resigns and they put the actual replacement candidate in office, I think even the stone-headed people of New Jersey will have seen more than they can stomach. If they manage, instead, to get a presentable candidate, they still have a chance (though it will cost $$ they don't have).

The deadline for filing for the office in NJ is long gone. The Republicans may fight in court, giving them the possibility of leaving "Honest Bob's" name on the ballot. The Republicans don't have a down side on this one. I suspect that there is little down side for the Republicans over the entire election spectrum for 2002 now.

When McDermott and Bonior get home, there will be a scramble among House Dems to distance themselves as quickly as possible from those two fools...
