Are your friends obligated to think "you had your reasons" for
shooting someone in the head, or is it reasonable for them to want to know
what happened?

There is a vast difference between what people want to know and what people are morally obligtaed to tell.

I recognize that gossip has been a staple of human interactions for -- well, maybe not forever, but close. But that doesn't make it right.

Sure, they will ask. But if I just say "I had my reasons, and I don't want to discuss them," those who are my friends will accept that, and those who don't accept that aren't my friends.
