I am not saying that there is never reason for reservation on this or that matter, but usually, and especially when the matter is on the table already, you have a particular responsibility to members of your immediate family or close friends to take care about how your behavior affects them, and to square yourself with them if need be. The responsibility to answer for yourself is merely a corollary of the responsibility you undertake as husband, father, or friend....... You do, don't you, recognize that these are all conclusory statements without any clarity of underlying principle supported by reason or argument? Put yourself in Socrates's place and imagine Glaucon said that. Now, imagine the dialogue. I think you will have no difficulty tying Glaucon into knots.
