First, we have to define what we mean by modernization. In one sense, anything going beyond walking around naked and eating only what one can find is modernization. But I don't think that's how you were using the word, was it? If so, then I agree with you. But if you are talking about modernization in the sense I think it is usually used, to mean coming up to contemporary American standards of living, then we can talk. Before I get any further, let's get the term defined and see whether we really do have a disagreement.
