I have to say I LIKE the new thread title. But (a little wistfully) I was hoping we could be the litter box. Sigh

It is meaningless to talk about "genes" being selfish or "memes" being selfish. Not only do they not have the requisite consciousness to be selfish, but putting the individual at the service of the species or the cultural cohort is anything but self- interested, and is a sheer misuse of the term. The improvement of the species may vary well require the sacrifice of numerous individuals: of their happiness, their health, or even their lives. Indeed, it is rather grimly totalitarian, the individual completely submerged in the corporate.
