Again, you merely repeat the fallacy. Just because we like to do things for others does not means that we are doing it for ourselves. The salient thing is that we have an emotional response to doing good in the first place......

Hey, when I cleaned the fish tank this weekend it was for the FISH (or so I thought). When I'd finished my first attempt, I knew the fish wouldn't be happy in a dirty tank. So, I cleaned it again, more carefully. Those pesky dead ants floating around really "bugged" me. Now the fish swims happily in its newly freshened home and it has me to thank. I can feel good about that. In the greater scheme of things, can the books be balanced by anyone to determine which part of my pleasure was exogenous and which was indigenous? I agree with you, but ultimately we can't know the reasons people do things. Most likely, they do it because doing the "right thing" feels good. But, there is a small chance it is done STRICTLY for the other.
