Isn't it really in the DESIRE for an outcome that drives all this? What if my do-gooding ultimately harms you? Can I still feel good about it? Probably not. When missionaries when to Africa and upset the social dynamic of the continent, can they really claim that they were doing it for the Africans, or was it to increase the Glory of (their) God? Since the Africans didn't know their God and apparently had little use for it without a lot of other trappings (education, medicine), how could such an act been FOR the African? Clearly it wasn't.
