The ideal is moral objectivity, where we balance our interests against the claims of others....... I found that it made more sense to accept that it's all self-interest than to struggle with balancing my interests against the claims of others. It's just easier and more useful that way. If that struggle doesn't cause you any problems, good for you, but it did me, and I have found it workable to dispense with the question altogether. Looking at it that way, generosity comes so much more naturally and easily to me. And that's in the interest of everyone.
