Screw National Security to get the union vote. I thinks its just pure stupidity on these Democrats part. Stupid on the merits and stupid politically. I was in the ironworkers union years ago and I can tell you this kind of thing is going to antagonize union members. It would tend to make them sit out the election or even vote for the other side. What kind of voter would be impressed by Democrat politicians going to an enemy capital and bad-mouthing the Prez? Well, muslim-americans, possibly. Maybe college professors. Or Green Party voters - the folks who kept Gore out of the White House 2 years ago. OTOH did you notice our President said they had the right to say what they said and say it wherever they want? Now that takes a big man who is willing to work with everybody. The exact right tack to take. And clever too. When your rival is doing something stupid and harmful to his cause, just smile and say well you have the right to do that.
