kayaker, tx for link to aync/sync paper many thanks for this link to qcom white paper on improvement in wCDMA by making it synchronized. Paper discusses various techniques of "quasi-sync" which use data already measured under 3GPP standard for wCDMA to compute base station timing of signals. It goes on to say that performance of quasi-sync (which is much better than async, esp. in standby times) can be further enhanced by "clock-sync". Discussion of closk sync refers to an external time signal, "e.g. GPS" but does not refer to another external clock source comparably robust and universal propitious
