JCOM is listed as "restricted" on my NexTrend software....

I've never been able to short any stock that's "restricted" through IB.

Good luck in finding the shares.

Tankan shows slight improvement

TOKYO (CBS.MW) -- Japanese companies became less pessimistic about the economy in the third quarter, but the pace of improvement eased sharply compared with the previous quarter, the Bank of Japan said Tuesday in its quarterly business confidence survey.

The findings of the Tankan report underscores concerns that the world's second-largest economy still faces significant hurdles as it struggles to mount an export-led recovery.

The Bank of Japan said its gauge of business sentiment for big manufacturers improved to minus-14 in September from minus-18 in June, marking the second straight quarterly improvement.

The results were largely in line with market expectations. But the September survey showed a much smaller margin of improvement compared with the 20-point improvement in the June survey.

The index for large nonmanufacturers improved to minus-13 from minus-16 in the previous survey.

The Tankan index represents the percentage of companies reporting favorable business conditions minus those reporting unfavorable conditions. A negative reading means pessimists outnumber optimists.

Following the release of the survey, Tokyo's Nikkei Average opened down 156.16 points, or 1.7 percent, at 9,227.13.

In currency dealings, the dollar bought 121.74 yen, vs. 121.70 yen in New York trading late Monday.
