That they would be in fear of Iraq, which has been subject to sanctions for 12 years, is ridiculous.

Man, you really are practicing selective perception yourself. Yes, Saddam's conventional weapons are not in as good shape as they had been.

What worries the neighboring countries are the WMD and the missiles. They worry about sarin, VX, and other nerve gases. They worry about smallpox, anthrax, and other biologicals. They worry that Saddam may have succeeded in obtaining sufficient uranium to make a Fat Man style atom bomb, which isn't very hard to do once you've got enough uranium.

They're scared of him because he threatens them that if they help the US he's going to fire the missiles into their cities and kill their people.

Oddly enough, millions of people think this is true. Possibly billions. The present administration thinks this is true, you know, the Republicans, the ones you voted for? The last administration thinks this is true, you know, the Democrats, the ones you are going to vote for? Tony Blair thinks this is true. The Israelis think this is true.

Even most of the people who are opposed to war in Iraq think it is true, they just don't think it's a casus belli.

I have no problem with people thinking it's not a casus belli.

But I cannot comprehend the obtuseness of people who, when faced with these facts, claim not to comprehend why others believe Saddam to be a danger.

If anyone is being ridiculous, Carl, it's you. I understand that you don't want war. But dismissing the facts is not like you.

If you're trying to persuade people to oppose the war, I suggest that you don't try to argue away the facts. Deal with the facts and explain why they don't support war.
