What's interesting about that period of time is why we felt the need to arm the Afghans. I understand the Russians were trying to take over the country but what exactly was the special interest we were trying to protect.......downtown Kabul, opium, the sand, what? All the money that was blown. Its amazing.

If you don't know the answer, than you have no understanding of history of 20th century.

Joe, oh, I understand the 20th century game all too well. That was the big guys playing cops and robbers. I no longer trust nor believe our leaders when they tell us that someone wants to annihilate us at the risk of getting themselves [the enemy] annihilated by us. Survival of the human species is the prime imperative.

Unfortunately, its you who don't get the deception and the BS. And if you doubt what I say, look what was wrought out of the game of chess played by the leaders of the two superpowers in Afghanistan........the Taliban. Out of evil behavior comes more evil. I know you will blow that off as BS but its not and it did happen. And we paid at least millions in the 80's for this BS, and we will pay billions when the current mess is finished......all so we could play military chess with Russia. Expensive game, huh?

But you guys who so believe the party line......and it is a line........choose to ignore the results of the bs or to disassociate it from our earlier interference. Somehow you justify it and believe democracy and your skin were saved by that BS interference. And like with any interfering neighborhood snoop, I bet the world would be a much better place if we cut our interfering ways by half.

And before you respond to counter my argument.......look no further than Saddam...during the 80's we helped him in his fight with Iran. We helped in his development of WMD. We spoke nicely of him. How was he to know that we condoned his attacking Iran but it was not okay to attack Kuwait. We puffed him up so much, and encouraged him with his weapons' development, I'm sure he thought we were stupid and he could get away with annexing Kuwait.

Like I said before, be careful with whom you sleep......you can wake up with craps, fleas and/or something worse.
