Re: thanks to oil profits

...not if we don't pay them for the oil.

Right now, a more stable Soviet Union is important to the world. Let's just divvy up the middle east's oil, something like:

US 25%
Soviet Union / Eastern Europe 25%
Western Europe / England 25%
Asia 25%

We'll let the current regimes watch us pump it out of the ground and ship it off to be consumed and we won't charge them a cent.

I've just had it with the gang that's in charge over there. Let them manage the raising of sheep, the growing of fruit, the manufacture of honest goods, instead of the glutonous consumption of oil profits produced by others.

We can offer to set up western schools for them, filled with western teachers teaching western ways - then they can learn where and how all those neat things come from and how they can contribute to the creation of more.

For those who want their children to learn nothing but the koran, swell - it's their decision. But those people shouldn't be let anywhere near all the advanced (by western notions) technology, the sources of which they are so contemptous of.

How do you think the US should deal with Saudi Arabia?

Joe, reduce our dependency on oil; raise taxes on oil like Europe did. We keep hoping technology will solve the problem but I just don't think its going to happen. And for environmental reasons, more drilling will be limited.

The Europeans were smart........they accepted that they were short on the commodity and acted accordingly. We keep putting off what I believe will be the inevitable pain.

Once we get over our addiction, our foreign policy vis a vis Saudi Arabia will correct accordingly. The user sees his dealer in a whole new light once he kicks his habit.
