The only reason we have any need for a relationship with Saudia Arabia is their oil. If we were to develop alternate energy sources and seriously reduce our dependence on oil, we could kiss SA goodbye. And our dollars would no longer go to funding terrorists who attack us (where do you think they got the money to train and send 15 Saudies to attack the WTC? From us, natch.)

Our long term prosperity as a nation depends on our ability to reduce our dependence on oil from the middle east. Until we can do that, we will remain at the mercy of the Saudis.

If we took all the money we're proposiing to spend attacking Iraq and were to spend it on Project Independence, making ourselves energy independent by a serious national push for alternate energy sources and more efficient use of the resources we do have (such as pricing gas at $4.00 a gallon so people wouldn't drive 3 ton monsters to the grocery store to get a quart of milk), we would be far better off.

BTW, I agree with you that China is our natural long-term enemy. They are smart, they are tough, and they are running out of room to expand their population and grow the food they need.
