The environmentalists were not the primary cause of the end of the program.

I'm sure that environmentalists weren't the only reason the SST program was shut down, but the environmental propaganda machine certainly did run full time in the Seattle Times and Post Intelligencer during that era. I didn't know anyone that worked at Boeing at the time so I didn't get the other side of the story. If I recall correctly, Boeing didn't do much to counter the environmentalists stance. By your reasoning, they were wrong. Or do SST engines release large concentrations of fluorocarbons?

Another possible reason that the Government pulled funding was the Vietnam war. All of our extra resources were being funneled to support that effort.
