Jury is out still IMO. Interesting juncture right here. This is not behaving like we are going to launch. Should we head down right here it should be a doozy.

Jeter the intangible machine...

fails to back up 2B on Erstad's steal (we won't even get into why the hell Soriano didn't get the throw; it is well acknowledged that he is the worst 2B in the league) then lets a not-very-hard-hit grounder three steps to his left go right under his glove for a single. excellent work Mr. Jeter did for the Angels that won't show up in the box score.

they oughta put Giambi at SS and let Jeter play 1B; Giambi has more range.

(btw, did you see the play by Ventura on Eckstein's bunt? great camera work by the Fox guys, showing how Ventura picked the ball up in a throwing position (i.e. two fingers on top, thumb underneath) to get the throw off in time. now THAT is how you field your position)

Cheers

score now Jeter intangibles 3, Yankees 3

wow, little grounder by 5-foot-6 David Eckstein yet again under the glove of a diving Derek Jeter (diving for a ball that was three steps to his right), which eventually leads to 2 Angels runs and leaves Clemens out there for 36 pitches (and about 10 throws over to first).

forget having Giambi play SS. maybe they could get Cecil Fielder to come out of retirement to field the position. geezus. the box score doesn't even begin to express how many ways Jeter's intangible qualities help the Angels.

Cheers
