What ever happened to going going gone?
Have you ever been to a real auction, in person? They move fast, designed to move items at the "highest possible price" BUT in a timely fashion. bid and move on. next item.

Sounds like you want the best of all worlds as a seller. you are auctioning stuff. The game has to have some end point. IMHO

Anyway, who cares if it goes longer as long as the final value goes up

Buyers (and I have only bought never sold on Ebay) don't want the final value to go up.
