Hmmm. China and India one? Do you have any reason to think this? It would be hard for either to conquer the other, I think, in this day and age -- both being nuclear powers, I think the world super powers would step in early. As to a non-military union, I can't see it happening--too much difference in culture, lifestyles, bellief systems, etc. for a merger to take place voluntarily. WHERE are the far sighted leaders? WHERE? Our political system self-selects against far sighted leaders. The public at large doesn't want that, any more than it wants CEOs who look beyonid the next quarterly earnings statement, or football teams which are rebuilding, or any other long-term thinking. Occasionally on the local level a long-term thinker may sneak in, but on the national level, it can't happen. The skills and beliefs that are necessary to run successfully for national office are simply incompatible with the skills and beliefs necessary for long-term thinking. It's one of the negatives about a democracy that has lasted as long as ours.
